Safety Notice Urgent safety warning for severe spinal warning signs and red flags

Medical Review May Be Needed First

This page is usually shown after completing the Ian The Chiro symptom checker.

If you landed here directly and you are experiencing warning signs such as sudden weakness, loss of bowel or bladder control, numbness around the groin or saddle area, major trauma, fever, unexplained weight loss, or severe progressive pain, please seek medical attention first.

For general guidance only, you can also take the symptom checker.

Based on your answers, it may be safer to seek medical attention first before booking a chiropractic consultation.

This does not mean something is definitely serious. It simply means your answers included warning signs that should be checked properly by a medical doctor, emergency department, or appropriate healthcare provider first.

Warning signs to take seriously

Please seek medical attention first if you are experiencing:

  • sudden progressive weakness in your leg or arm
  • loss of bowel or bladder control
  • numbness around the groin or saddle area
  • pain after a major trauma, such as a car accident or serious fall
  • fever, unexplained weight loss, or severe progressive pain that wakes you at night
  • a sudden unusually severe headache
  • headache with weakness, numbness, confusion, vision changes, balance problems, or difficulty speaking

Why this matters

Chiropractic care is not the right first step for every case.

Some symptoms need medical screening, imaging, medication, urgent care, or another form of assessment before manual therapy should be considered.

Once urgent or serious causes have been ruled out, you can still contact Ian The Chiro to ask whether chiropractic assessment is suitable after that.
