Clinical Philosophy

Not a typical "crack and go" approach

Ian does not believe every patient needs the same treatment, the same adjustment, or the same advice. Pain and movement problems can look similar on the surface, but the reasons behind them can be very different.

The goal is not dependency

A big part of Ian's approach is helping patients understand their own body better. The aim is not to make you rely on treatment forever, but to help you build enough clarity, confidence, and practical control to manage better over time.

Sense-first Treatment

Chiropractic adjustments, dry needling, rehab advice, activity changes, or load management can all be useful when they fit the case. But if something is not appropriate, Ian would rather explain that clearly than force treatment.

Advice that fits real life

Your work, sleep, training, habits, stress, recovery, and daily routine can all affect how your body feels and responds. That is why the recommendations have to be practical enough to actually fit your life.

Ian's Journey

Why Ian practises this way

Before becoming a chiropractor, Ian had his own experience with chronic lower back pain. The strange part was that it felt so normal at the time that he did not even realise it was pain.

That changed after a chiropractic intern pointed it out and helped him make sense of what was going on. Chiropractic care helped, but it also made Ian realise something important: feeling better after treatment is useful, but it is not the whole picture.

If the same habits, movement patterns, training load, work stress, or recovery problems keep pulling the body back into the same cycle, repeated treatment alone may not be enough. That experience shaped how Ian now works with patients: proper assessment first, practical care second, and patient education throughout.

“I learned firsthand that adjusting a spine helps temporarily, but if we don't change how we load our bodies in daily life, the pain eventually finds its way back. My goal is to break that cycle for my patients.”

Clinical Flow

How Ian works with patients

Ian's work is built around clinical reasoning, practical explanation, and helping patients understand what may be driving their symptoms.

1

Understand the full picture

This starts with your symptoms, history, daily routine, work demands, training, sleep, and previous treatments.

2

Assess before deciding

We assess movement, symptoms behavior, and tissue irritability before proposing any form of treatment.

3

Explain what makes sense

We prefer clear, simple explanations over complicated medical jargon, so you know exactly what is going on.

4

Treat only when appropriate

Adjustments, dry needling, or exercise guidance are only done when they actively support recovery.

5

Build independence

The long-term goal is to help you move better, understand your body, and require less clinic treatment over time.

Expectation Alignment

Who this approach is for

This approach tends to fit people who want more than temporary relief and are ready to understand what is actually going on.

This may be a good fit if you:

  • Have chronic or recurring pain that keeps coming back
  • Have tried chiropractic, physio, TCM, or orthopaedics but still feel unclear
  • Want someone to assess properly instead of guessing
  • Prefer clear explanations and practical next steps
  • Are willing to make small but meaningful daily changes when needed

This may not be the best fit if you:

  • Only want a quick crack treatment without looking at the bigger picture
  • Expect every visit to include the same crack regardless of suitability
  • Prefer a completely passive approach without applying any advice
  • Are not ready to apply any advice or exercises outside the clinic

That does not mean every patient needs to change everything. It simply means that the best results usually come when treatment and daily habits are moving in the same direction.
